VIDEO: A Christian Reflection on Foreclosures

Across North Carolina, congregations and church leaders are getting involved in the fight against foreclosures and predatory lending.  Predatory lending practices compromise Christian values, as they take advantage of the borrower at the lender’s profit.  Biblical teaching advises that acting justly and sympathetically when making loans is “a righteous act in the sight of the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 24:13).  The housing crisis isn’t just a series of financial meltdowns, but also a breakdown of morale and self-esteem in thousands of households across the country.  Christian communities look at how this crisis has affected not only the pockets of American citizens, but also their souls.
